Twila Mae Fischer of Hebron, NE the daughter of Archie and Muriel (Goeller) Mapel, was born December 20, 1933 in Seward, NE. She departed this life Thursday, July 22, 2021 at Courtyard Terrace Assisted Living in Hebron, NE at the age of 87 years.

Twila grew up in Fairbury, NE attending school and graduating from Fairbury High School with the class of 1951. She was baptized December 12, 1954 and confirmed December 20, 1954 on her 21th birthday.

Twila married Glenn Fischer September 4, 1955 at The American Lutheran Church in Fairbury, NE officiated by Rev. Clair Seibert. This union was blessed with the birth of one son Michael Glenn.

Glenn & Twila lived in Fairbury where Twila worked for Starr Buckow Insurance. In 1956 they moved southeast of Hebron to the farm that became their lifetime home. Twila later worked at Hebron Livestock in Hebron, NE.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron where she was active in the women’s circle, Hebron American Legion Auxiliary, the Thayer County Pork Producers and the Nearby Neighbors Extension Club.

Twila enjoyed playing bridge in numerous bridge clubs and playing pitch with her husband and other couples in several different card groups. She also enjoyed bowling, baking, and just being home and spending time with her family especially the grandchildren. Twila took care of her young granddaughters a couple of days each week and hardly ever missed one of their events.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Marvin Mapel, one sister Bessie Lewis and husband Ralph, sister-in-law Vicky Mapel and brother-in-law Harold Fischer.

She is survived by her husband Glenn of Hebron, NE, son Mike Fischer and wife Shari of Hebron, NE grandchildren; Ranae Vorderstrasse and husband Spencer of Hebron, NE, and Joni Fischer and significant other Chris Campbell of Hebron, NE; great-grandchildren; Cole, Alex, Lane, Graham, and Emilia Vorderstrasse, and Camden and Paxton Campbell. She is also survived by her sister Marcia Grummert and husband Ray of Longmont, CO, brother Alvin Mapel of Loveland, CO, and sister-in-law Darlene Fischer of Hebron, NE, as well as nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron, NE at 10:30 AM. Officiant will be Pastor Keith Brozek, organist Brenda Striggow, congregational hymns “On Eagles Wings”, “Borning Cry” and “In The Garden”, casket bearers; Spencer Vorderstrasse, Chris Campbell, Cole Vorderstrasse, Alex Vorderstrasse, Lonnie Jacobitz and Gene Fischer, honorary casket bearers; Lane, Graham and Emilia Vorderstrasse, and Camden and Paxton Campbell, visitation will be Monday, July 26, 2021 at Kroll Funeral Home in Hebron, NE 2pm to 6pm, memorials in care of the family.
