 Thomas Christopher Long of Fairbury, NE, formerly Hebron the son of Thomas and Mary Ann (Whitcomb) Long was born August 10, 1957 in Hebron, NE.  He departed this life on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Heritage Care Center in Fairbury, NE at the age of 64 years.

 Tom was raised in Hebron and graduated from Hebron High School with the class of 1975. He attained multiple state championships as a fierce competitor on the track and in cross country during high school.  

 After graduation he ran at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for a year before entering into a career at Union Pacific Railroad.  He was a bridge welder and continued to work there for more than 20 years prior to his diagnosis of multiple sclerosis.

 He married Ruth Sorge on April 9, 1983 at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler, NE.  This union was blessed with three sons. He remarried to Paula Squires on December 23, 2012.

 Tom was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, and photography. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends and adored his grandchildren.

 He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Paula, and brother Ben Long. 

He is survived by his three sons; Chad Long of Lincoln, NE, Aaron Long and wife Kali of Shickley, NE, and Christopher Long and wife Mackenzie of Waverly, NE, step son Tavis Squires of Lincoln, NE, brothers; Tracy Long of Sidney, NE, and Andy Long and wife Sue of Bennington, NE, sister Jennifer Long of Chandler, AZ, sister-in-law Yvonne Long of Billings, MT, grandchildren; Jordan Long of Syracuse, NE, Shelbie Grant, Harlie Grant, Josten Grant all of York, NE, Bow Grant, Ruby Long, Ryatt Long, and Amethyst Long all of Shickley, NE,  Isla Long of Waverly, NE, and one great-grandson Torbyn Odvedy, nieces, nephews and friends.

Following Tom’s wishes he was cremated and no visitation. Memorial services will be held November 16, 2021 at Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron, NE at 10:30 AM. Officiant will be Pastor Keith Brozek. Condolences may be left at www.krollfh.com. Honorary casket bearers; Benji Long, Ryan Long, Laythan Long, Mike Ryan, Jim Koerwitz, and Randy Beavers. Organist Brenda Striggow, congregational hymns; “Amazing Grace”, “How Great Thou Art”, “Children Of The Heavenly Father”, Memorial in care of the family. Inurnment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Hebron, NE. Kroll Funeral Home of Hebron, NE is in charge of arrangements.
