Robert Vern Bottom of Hebron, NE the son of Dale and Gladys (Rogers) Bottom was born February 2, 1933 in Lincoln, NE. He departed this life Friday, August 14, 2020 at Blue Valley Lutheran Home in Hebron at the age of 87 years.

Bob was baptized and confirmed and later became members of Abiding Word Lutheran Church in Deshler, NE.

Bob grew up in Bridgeport, NE, attending school and graduating from Bridgeport High School with the class of 1951. He also served as Sheriff of Bridgeport.

He enlisted in the United States Navy December 6, 1951 and was honorably discharged November 15, 1955.

He married Claudia Nickell in 1956, this union was blessed with the birth of three children.

He married Betty Jean Obermiller on July 31, 1982, this union was blessed with 38 years.

Bob received his flying license in 1963 and started the Bridgeport Flying Club. He started flying for Dan Eggers at the Scottsbluff Aviation. He worked hard and received his instructor rating and taught many people to fly. He flew mail deliveries to Omaha, and Denver. He was later an Aviation inspector for the FAA. Bob flew 80 different models of airplanes. He retired in 2004.

The couple moved to Hebron in 1988 and made their home on the Little Blue River. The couple loved to hunt and fish.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister Glenna.

He is survived by his wife Betty Jean of Hebron, NE, two sons Robert Vern Bottom II and wife JoAnn of Honolulu, Hawaii, William Bottom of Fort Collins, CO, daughter Jana Price and husband Bob of Casper, WY, stepsons Jeffery Obermiller of Rocky Ford, CO, Michael Lee Obermiller and wife Terri of Claremore, OK, and stepdaughter Cynthia Ann Miller of Albuquerque, NM, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 10:00AM at Abiding Word Lutheran Church in Deshler, NE. Officiant Pastor Jon Langness. Organist Marilyn Kettelhut, “It Is Well With My Soul”, “On Eagles Wings”, and “Amazing Grace”. Visitation will be Friday 2PM to 6PM at Kroll Funeral Home in Hebron. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery in Hebron, NE. Casket bearers are Bob Reinke, Russ Reinke, Aaron Buckles, Jay Buckles, Kevin Wollenberg, Harlan Eitzmann. Military honors by Thayer County American Legion Post and Legion Freedom Riders. Memorials in care of family. Condolences may be left at www.krollfh.com.
