Richard Alan Zeleny of Deshler, NE the son of Anton and Verna (Meyer) Zeleny was born November 30, 1946 in Odell, NE. He departed this life Monday, June 14, 2021 at Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home in Hebron, NE at the age of 74 years.

Rich grew up and attended school in Diller, NE before the family moved to Edgar and he graduated from Edgar High School in 1965.

Rich entered the United States Marine Corp. May 20, 1965 and was honorably discharge April 26, 1966.

After returning home he attended Hastings College, South East Junior College in Fairbury, NE and continued his education attending the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, NE.

Rich was united in marriage to Mary E. Benker on August 19, 1972 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Deshler, NE. This union was blessed with the birth of two sons.

After school he returned home and worked for his father at Chester Farmers Grain Chester, NE. In 1978 he took the managers position at the Farmers Elevator in Carleton, NE. He later worked for Lee Enterprise in Deshler, NE and also drove the U.S. mail truck delivering mail to Lincoln, NE.

Rich enjoyed trapping with his father, car races, playing cards but most of all spending time with his family especially the grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister Marsha Urbanec and husband Don.

He is survived by his wife Mary Beth of Deshler, NE, sons; Aaron Zeleny of Belvidere, NE and Lance Zeleny and wife Rachel of Sergeant Bluff, IA, brothers; Rex Zeleny of Belleville, KS, and Robert Zeleny and wife Beth of Carleton, NE, sister Maggie Lahners of Lincoln, NE, grandchildren; Jack, Faith and Hope Zeleny, nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorial service will be held Friday, June 18, 2021 at Kroll Funeral Home Chapel in Hebron, NE 11 AM. Officiant will be Pastor Brian Francik. Follwing Rich’s wishes he was cremated, no visitation. Recorded hymns; “How Great Thou Art”, “Amazing Grace”, and “Rest High On The Mountain” by Vince Gill. Honorary casket bearers are grandchildren. Military Honors by Thayer County American Legion.
