Richard H.W. Degner of Hebron, NE the son of Richard H. and Wilhemina (Rosenkoetter) Degner was born June 2, 1926 in Hebron, NE.  He departed this life Thursday, October 21, 2021 at Mary Lanning Health Care in Hasting, NE at the age of 95 years.

Richard grew up on a farm by Friedensau, NE attending school and graduating from Deshler High School with the class of 1944.

He was inducted in the United States Army March 22, 1945 during WWII.  He was honorably discharged November 19, 1945. 

After returning from the service he was employed by the Soil Conservation Service and helped plant Nebraska National Forest in Halsey, NE. Then he returned to the farm for his lifelong career of farming.  He raised cattle, and hogs.  Just being out in God’s great creation was a special treat for Richard.

From 1970-1980 he experimented with building solar power panels.  It was fascinating to him. He also enjoyed fishing.

He married Viola Swanson September 7, 1958 at Ammana Lutheran Church in Scandia, KS.  This union was blessed with the birth of two children.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Clarence Degner and wife Lois, and sister Erna Vieselmeyer and husband Marwin.

He is survived by his wife Viola of Hebron, NE, son Larry Degner and wife Kelli of Hastings, NE and daughter  Patricia Fick and husband Steve of Austin, TX, three grandchildren Abby Degner of Hastings, NE, Jo Degner of Hastings, NE, and Ted Degner of Omaha, NE, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedensau, NE.  Officiant will be Pastor Jose Flores, organist Madeline Vieselmeyer, congregational hymns “How Great Thou Art”, “Rock Of Ages”, and “Just As I Am.  Casket bearers; Alan Bohling, Neil Bohling, Steve Meyer, Ryan Luttrelle, Bruce Schardt, and Ted Degner.  Honorary casket bearers; David Degner, Fred Schmidt, Ken Degner, Dean Vieselmeyer, Lee Vieselmeyer and Harlan Schardt.  Visitation will be Monday, October 25, 2021 at Kroll Funeral Home in Hebron, NE from 2-6 PM with family greeting friends 5-6 PM.  Memorials can be made out to Trinity Lutheran Church, Friedensau.  Condolences may be left at www.krollfh.com.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Kroll Funeral Home of Hebron, NE is in charge of arrangements.
