Mary Mathilda Loontjer of Deshler, NE the daughter of Diedrich and Ida (Hillers) Burr was born October 5, 1922 in rural Rohrs, NE. She departed this life Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at Thayer County Health Services in Hebron, NE at the age of 98 years.
Mary grew up on a farm near Rohrs, NE attending country school and graduating from Johnson High School in Johnson, NE.
She was baptized December 3, 1922 by Pastor Duhrkop and confirmed March 21, 1937 by Pastor G.K. Wiencke both at St. John Evangelical Church Auburn, NE. Her confirmation verse Revelations 3:20, Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: If any man hears my voice, and opens the door, I will come in to Him and will dine with him, and he with me.
She married Alvin Loontjer June 27, 1948 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Kiowa, NE by Pastor Schooff. This union was blessed with the birth of two sons.
Mary liked spending time with her sons, especially the grandchildren making them a special treat of pancakes. This was of their favorite and they always talked grandma into making them.
Mary was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Deshler, NE always helping where needed.
She enjoyed playing cards, 10 point pitch, sewing, quilting and never missed bingo on Saturday night.
Mary was busy on the farm helping her husband with chores and wherever needed. When they moved to town in 1966 she worked for Reinke Manufacturing, and Blue Valley Lutheran Home in Hebron.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Alvin, brother Lester Burr, and sister Ethel Rogge.
She is survived by her sons; Larry Loontjer of Deshler, NE and Dennis Loontjer of Ruskin, NE, grandchildren; Troy Hansen and wife Colleen of Deshler, Audra Capek and husband Jon of Carleton, Tamra Luzum and husband Dale of Milligan, Tanya McKernan and husband Jim of Olathe, KS, Travis Loontjer and wife Mandy of Olathe, KS, and Brett Loontjer and wife Ashley of Omaha, NE, 15 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 21, 2020 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Deshler, NE at 10:30 AM. Officiant Brian Francik, organist Anita Harms, congregational hymns “Amazing Grace”, “Beautiful Savior” and “Just As I Am”, casket bearers; Travis Loontjer, Brett Loontjer, Jim McKernan, John Capek, Dale Luzum, and Troy Hansen, viewing 1 hour before funeral service at church, burial will be in the church cemetery, condolences may be left at www.krollfh.com.
