Margaret Loretta(Brenn/Boyce)Stutz, the daughter of Francis Anthoy and Elvira Anna(Kriley)Brenn was born August 28, 1920 on a farm northeast of Fairbury, NE. She departed this life on November 26, 2021 at the age of 101.
Loretta started school at Bower, north of Fairbury. The family then moved to a farm east of Alexandria and she attended Jefferson County School #102. She then attended the 7th and 8th grades in Alexandria. Her father ran a butcher shop there. After his death, the family moved to a farm southeast of Hebron where she went to Hebron High School one year before moving back to Alexandria where she graduated from Alexandria High School with the class of 1938.
Loretta took piano lessons as a youngster(and made her children do so as well). Her favorite program growing up was Amos and Andy. She taught school in District 38 near Belvidere for 3 years and a year at District 52 near Alexandria, NE. Upon moving to the Lexington Assisted Living Facility in Lincoln, she managed their general store for a time, loved playing pitch and bingo. She also became a devoted Kansas City Royals fan in recent years. The Lexington facility confirmed that she was their longest resident and their oldest resident they’ve ever had.
She married Doyle Boyce on January 17, 1942. Doyle spent three years in the United States Army before they settled on a farm near Hubbell, NE. This union was blessed with the birth of 6 chilren. Upon Doyle’s death on May 27, 1969, the family sold the farm and moved to Hebron in the fall.
She married Robert Stutz on October 27, 1970 and his four children came along with the marriage which she claimed as her own.
Because of Bob’s health, the couple moved to California for a few months to be close to Bob’s 3 sons. Upon moving back, Loretta worked at Ace Hardware in Hebron until it closed in 1992, then Ben Franklin and also Smitty’s bakery. Upon Bob’s death on May 17, 1997, she continued to enjoy quilting, giving 1 to nearly every child. She was in the Double X Club in Hubbell and Altar Society at Sacred Heart Church in Hebron. She was an active member in the Hubbell Ladies V.F.W. auxillary and the Thayer County Gold Star Post 5328 Ladies V.F.W. Auxillary in Hebron serving as President for 1 year.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 8 siblings, husbands Doyle Boyce and Robert Stutz, daughters-in-law Joyce Boyce and Judy Boyce, grandson James Boyce, son-in-law Kenneth Coonrod, and step-son and wife Robert and Eriko Stutz.
She is survived by sons: Dennis Boyce of Fort Collins, CO; Jerry Boyce and wife Linda of Lincoln, NE; Roger Boyce and special friend Nancy of North Bend, WA; daughters: Marian Young and husband Bill of Papillion, NE; Barbara Coonrod of Greeley, CO; and Brenda Gilmore of Lincoln, NE; step-sons: James Stutz and Michael Stutz and wife Reyna both of Lemon Grove, CA; NE; step-daughter Mary Isernhagen and husband Mike of Deshler, NE., 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, 17 step-granchildren, and 7 step-great-great grandchildren, numerous other relatives and many friends.
Mass of the Christian Bural will be Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron at 10:30 AM. Officiant Fr. Steve Major, organist Juli Kriesel, cantor Carlece Kenner, congregational hymns “Amazing Grace” “How Great Thou Art” , acolytes Ken Else and Francis Rauner, reader Scott Kinkaid, rosary service before funeral at 9:30 AM at the church. Visitation on Friday, December 3, 2021 from 2:00PM to 6:00PM at Kroll Funeral Home in Hebron, casket bearers will be the grandsons. Interment at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery in Hebron. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Sacred Heart Church, Thayer County Health Services, VFW Auxiliary of Davenport, NE, or Hebron Fire Department.
