Linda Kay Hergott of Hebron, NE the daughter of George and Betty (McCarrell) Cummings was born October 15, 1948 in Lamar, CO. She departed this life Saturday, December 26, 2020 peacefully in her home surrounded by her family.

George moved the family south of Grainton, NE in 1950 where they farmed and raised livestock. Linda went to school in Grainton and Wallace, NE and graduated high school in 1966. She continued her education attending Ben’s College of Beauty in Lincoln, NE where she graduated and worked as a Cosmetologist at Miller and Paine.

Linda agreed to a blind date on New Year’s Eve in 1967 with the man who would become the love of her life, Larry Hergott who had just returned from basic training. The two were inseparable until Larry was deployed to Vietnam in November 1968. They spent the next year corresponding by letters until Larry’s return.

Larry and Linda were united in marriage on February 8, 1970 in Grainton, NE. They made their home in Hebron, NE for the next fifty years.

Linda was a devoted wife and mother. She could always be heard in the stands cheering on her daughters throughout every childhood high school and college sport. Everyone always knew where she was in the stands. Many family vacations were planned around the girl’s athletic destinations.

Linda was an active member of the Hebron Volunteer Fireman’s Axillary, American Legion Axillary, Hebron Rotary Club, St. Ann’s Altar Society, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a giving woman who would do anything she could to help her friends and family at any time.

Camping, fishing and spending time with the family was important to Linda and especially with the grandchildren. Linda could be found for many years with her family and friends at many of the lakes around Kansas and Nebraska. Larry and Linda spent the last few years traveling around the country with her sister Karen and husband Dick.

She was preceded in death by her father George, in 2002 and mother Betty, in 2016, brothers-in-law Dick Goucher and Richard Bayha and niece Andrea Dilsaver Cummings.

She is survived by her husband Larry of Hebron, daughters; Tina Johnson and husband Doug of Omaha, NE, and Tanya Rizek and husband John of Lincoln, NE, sisters; Karen Goucher of Grand Junction, CO, Beverly Henrichson of Henderson, NV, Sandra Homman and husband Clair of Yuma, AZ, and Patricia Sales and husband Dan of Montrose, CO and one brother Robert Cummings and wife Anita of Wallace, NE, grandchildren; Addison and Ana LaFrance of Omaha, NE, Hannah Johnson of Norfolk, NE, Connor Johnson and wife J’Lynne of Omaha, NE, Noah Rizek and fiance Carlee Bunch of Lincoln, NE, Nathan Rizek of Lincoln, NE, one great-granddaughter Huntyr Faith Johnson, nieces, nephews and friends.

Private Mass of the Christian Burial will be Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron, NE at 10:30 AM. Officiant Fr. Steve Major, acolyte Francis Rauner, reader Pat O’Hanlon, organist Carlece Kenner, cantor Kurk Wiedel, “Be Not Afraid” sung by daughter Tina Johnson, congregational hymns “To Live With Him Forever”, and “Now We Remain”, recorded hymn “Blessed Assurance”. Public rosary service will be Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at the church at 6:30 PM. Public book signing will be Wednesday, December 30 at Kroll Funeral Home in Hebron from 1-5. Honorary casket bearers are the grandchildren. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials in care of the family. Condolences may be left at www.krollfh.com.
