Katharina “Kathy” Mary (Schnegelberger) Mammen daughter of Lawrence and Amelia (Gruenemeyer Spomer) Schnegelberger, was born December 30, 1935, at home, Hebron, Nebraska.  She was the first of two children born to her parents.  She died on  October 27, 2022 at Blue Valley Lutheran Homes at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 27 days.

  Kathy was baptized on January 26, 1936, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Gilead, Nebraska by Pastor R. J. Voss. She was confirmed April 2, 1950, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Gilead, Nebraska by Pastor A. L. Heine. She attended country school near Hebron, Nebraska and Hebron High School Hebron, Nebraska. Her graduation was to have been on May 10, 1953, but a tornado on May 9, 1953, destroyed the school. Her graduation was held on May 20, 1953, at the old Methodist Church in Hebron Nebraska.

She was united in marriage to Wilber Mammen on June 1, 1958, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Gilead, Nebraska, by Pastor Edward J. Hiller. This union was blessed with four children, Arlean, Beverly, Linda and Roger.

Kathy worked at Blue Valley Lutheran Homes from January of 1955 until October of 1959 just shortly before her first child was born.  Then while raising her 4 children she helped Wilber with farming, livestock, poultry and raising a big garden every year.  She returned to Blue Valley Lutheran Homes on September 8, 1980, when her youngest, Roger, was 16.  She loved working with the residents and staff where she developed friendships with many, making sure they had yarn for knitting and crocheting and doing other special things to celebrate them.  She retired on October 25, 2008, with 35 years of service just before her 73rd birthday.  She moved into Courtyard Terrace Assisted Living of Blue Valley Lutheran Homes on January 3, 2017, and into the Blue Valley Nursing Homes on September 3, 2019.  

  She is preceded in death by parents Lawrence and Amelia

(Gruenemeyer Spomer) Schnegelberger, husband Wilber Mammen, son Roger Mammen, brother Floyd and wife Erma Schnegelberger, brothers-in-law Ervin and wife Harmine Mammen, Leonard and wife Ardene Mammen, Delbert and wife Selma Mammen, Donald and wife Marjorie Mammen and Edward Mammen: nephews George Mammen and Ron Mammen, niece Alice (Mammen) Saczawa and special friend Don Engel.  

  Kathy is survived by daughters Arlean Crossgrove and husband Dennis of Lincoln, Nebraska, and their children Blake Crossgrove of Lincoln, Nebraska and Claire Breskin and her husband Daniel of Berlin, Germany,  Beverly Mussman and husband Burnell of Bellevue, Nebraska and their children Brianna Chalek and husband Kurt of Glenwood, Iowa, Brayden Mussman of Omaha, Nebraska and Brooklyn Mussman Azle, Texas and Linda Depner and husband Mark of Medford, Oregon. Daughter-in-law Melinda Klein of Grand Island, Nebraska and numerous nieces and nephews.

  Funeral Services will be held Wednesday November 2, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bruning, Nebraska with PMA Jim Germer officiating.  The congregational hmyns “Blessed Assurance”, “The Old Rugged Cross”, “Amazing Grace”, “Great is Thy Faithfulness” and “Borning Cry”.  Janice Fintelas organist. Pallbearers; Blake Cossgrove, Claire Breskin, Daniel Breskin, Brianna Chalek, Kurt Chalek, Brayden Mussman and Brooklyn Mussman. Interment will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at Bruning, Nebraska. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at Kroll Funeral Home in Hebron, NE 2-7PM. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorial have been established in lieu of flowers to the family’s choice. Condolences may be left at www.krollfh.com.
