James Verlyn Bower of Hebron formerly Edgar, NE was born May 27, 1940 in Omaha, NE to Oscar and Gladys (Miller) Bower. He departed this life Monday, July 27, 2020 at Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home in Hebron, NE at the age of 80 years.
James grew up and attended school in Davenport, Nebraska.
He was enlisted in the United States Army and served from April 14, 1960 to April 23, 1962.
James married Linda Wolf June 18, 1963 in Lincoln, NE. This union was blessed with the birth of five children.
James worked in Lincoln and Minden before moving to Edgar and working for Edgar Grain. He later opened his own shop Bower Sales and Service working on small engines.
He was a member of the Edgar Volunteer Fire Department, and Edgar American Legion.
His pastimes were of course helping neighbors with their lawn mowers, woodworking, hunting, fishing, and leather work.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and two still born sons Robert and Richard, and one sister Glada Kraus.
He is survived by two sons Mike Bower and wife Pam of Nelson, NE and Bryan Bower and wife Priscilla of Deshler, NE, one daughter Becky Niles and husband David of Red Cloud, NE, grandchildren Holly and Katie Bower of Nelson, NE, Frisco Bower of O’Neil, NE, Joseph Bower of Lincoln, Tristan Niles, Layla Donscheski, Klayton Niles, Makenna Niles all of Red Cloud, four great grandchildren; Jayce, William, Clarie and Violet, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Following James’ wishes he was cremated and a graveside service will be held Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Davenport City Cemetery. Officiant will be Pastor Randy Schneider, Military honors by Edgar American Legion Post, and the Freedom Riders. You may bring a lawn chair to the graveside. Lunch will be served at the Edgar Legion Club in Edgar, NE. Condolences may be left at www.krollfh.com. Memorials may be mailed to Bryan 417 4th St. Deshler, NE 68340.
