Father Rudy's Obituary

Fr. Rudy F. Oborny was born on Feb. 5, 1945 in Columbus, Ne. to Rudolf P. and Agnes R.(Divis) Oborny. He attended Rural Butler County Country School through the 3rd grade and then attended and graduated from St. Mary’s Grade School David City, Ne. He graduated from Aquinas High School David City, Ne in 1963. He entered Immaculate Conception Seminary in Conception, Missouri 1963 to 1967. In 1967 he entered St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was ordained to the deaconate on April 18, 1970. He was ordained a priest on May 29, 1971 at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ, in Lincoln, Ne. His first assignment was the Assistant Pastor at St. Wenceslaus in Wahoo, Ne from 1971 to 1973. Then in 1973 to 1976 he was assistant Pastor at St. John’s in Lincoln, Ne. In 1976 to 1979 was assistant Pastor at St. Mary’s David City, Ne. In 1979 to 1985 he served the missions in Venezuela. After returning home from South America, he was pastor at St. Mary’s Davey, Ne. from 1985 to 1988. He was transferred as pastor to St. Patrick’s, Lincoln, Ne. from 1988 to 1990. Then in 1990 to 1999 was pastor St. John’s Lincoln, Ne. From 1999 to 2004 he was pastor in St. Wenceslaus in Wahoo, Ne. In 2004 to 2020 Fr. Rudy was pastor at Sacred Heart in Hebron, Ne. He retired to the Bonacum House in Lincoln, NE June 15, 2020 to present.

Fr. Rudy is survived by his siblings Charles (Dorothy), Fran (John) Pachta, Louie (RoseAnn), all of Bellwood, Jerry (Becky) of David City, sister-in-law, Marvine Oborny, nineteen nephews and nieces, seventy-three great nephews and nieces, six great-great nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolf and Agnes Oborny, brothers Joe Oborny and Lumir Oborny, two great nephews and one great niece.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 16, 2021 12pm -8pm at Butherus Maser & Love Funeral Home. Rosary will be Monday, May 17, 2021 at 7:30pm at Saint John Catholic Church, 76th and Vine Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at 10:30am at Saint John’s Catholic Church. A luncheon will be served at St. John’s before burial in Bellwood, NE (Cemetery is 5 miles East of Bellwood on Hwy 64). As a courtesy to the family, we will be attempting to live stream the Rosary & Mass starting at 5 minutes before each service at:  

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at 7:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church
