Dean Rodney Blincow, Jr. was born August 28, 1958 to Dean and Pauline (Hester) Blincow in Waco, Texas. He passed away May 11, 2021 at home in Hebron with Barb at his side at the age of 62 years 9 months.

Dean’s childhood was spent traveling the world, his father being an officer in the Air Force. They lived in many places such as the Philippines, Colorado Springs, Virginia and he especially enjoyed his high school years in Izmir Turkey.

He graduated from Oxford, NE high school in 1977, attended Kearney State College through the Army ROTC program studying Criminal Justice.

Dean began his law enforcement career as a dispatcher for Buffalo County, NE, receiving his NE Certification in 1982. He worked for Jefferson County Sheriff’s Dept and then Thayer Co Sheriff’s Dept, for over 35 years. It was his dream to always be a law enforcement officer. Dean especially enjoyed working with the youth and it was not unusual for them to stop by the house just to chat or if they were having a problem and needed to talk to someone.

Dean met Barb at the bowling center in Fairbury, she invited him to join her with some friends to bowl on the weekend. This began 39 years of love together. Dean proposed to Barb and Jon, they said yes and became an official family on December 4, 1982 at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairbury.

He was Scoutmaster of Troop 301. Many summers of taking the boys on camping adventures, including a fishing trip to Canada. Reaching the rank of Eagle Scout himself, he guided quite a few of the boys to the rank of Eagle. He was especially proud to lead Jon to that honor in 1993. His grandsons are also involved in Scouting.

Dean was passionate about bowling, setting some local records and had several perfect games. He and Barb went on some great vacations to state and national tournaments with friends. He also shared this passion with his son.

Dean was a proud member of Faith Lutheran Church, Isaac Walton League, and the local American Legion. He thoroughly enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and spending time with the grandsons. He was well known for his wealth of knowledge and had a GPS in his head.

He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by many. A kind, gentle man, even throughout his illness he never failed to thank everyone who helped him in any way.

Dean is survived by his wife Barb, son Jonathan and Terra Rickers, grandsons Jackson & Chase of St. Louis, MO, sister Lynn Blincow, Oregon City, OR, Ardith Rickers and Lorri Rickers of Fairbury, Roger and Marcia Penrod, Salina, KS, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.
