Dean Baker of Carleton, NE the son of Donald and Bernice (Thompson) Baker was born December 22, 1940 in Lincoln, NE. He departed this life Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Monarch Hospice Care Center in Lincoln, NE at the age of 81 years.

 

Dean was baptized and confirmed at United Church of Christ in Belvidere, NE.

 

Dean grew up on the farm near Carleton, NE area where he attended school at Coon Ridge

Country School until 7th grade and attended Belvidere High School and graduated in 1958. Following High School he attended Doane College.

 

After attending college for one year, Dean moved back home to farm with his Dad. Being surrounded by God’s great creation while raising crops and attending to livestock was one of Dean’s favorite things.

 

Dean met Shirley Bowman at a dance in Hubbell, NE. They were united in marriage on April 29, 1962 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bruning. They lived and raised their family on a farm in rural Carleton, NE. The union was blessed with four children, Lori, Steven, Shelli and Stacey.

 

Dean always enjoyed being involved in the annual “Milo Days” celebration and was a long time member of the Thayer County Livestock Feeders. He always looked forward to going out for supper at area restaurants with his special friend, JoAnne and watching grandchildren at their sporting events and school functions.

 

Dean was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Bernice Baker, wife Shirley Baker, son-in-law Charlie Kelly, sister Nancy Real, and infant sister Margaret.

 

Dean is survived by special friend, JoAnne Meyer of Deshler, NE, one son Steven and wife Jill of Hebron, NE, three daughters, Lori Dowdy and husband Doug of Carleton, NE, Shelli and husband Brian Reid of Lincoln, NE, and Stacey and husband Lathan McLaughlin of Hebron, NE, brother-in-law Mike Bowman and wife Kathy of Central City, NE, 12 grandchildren, Kalie Kelly, Sean Kelly, Gage Baker (Dylann), Lane Baker (Anna), Emma Baker, Trenton Buhr (Shelby), Shelbi Buhr, Elle Baker, Morgan Buhr, Brenner McLaughlin, Carson McLaughlin and Owen McLaughlin and 4 great-grandchildren, Jaylen Kelly, Cambree Kelly, Holt Baker and Knox Baker and other relatives and many close friends.

 

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at Zion Lutheran Church in Carleton, NE at 11AM. Officiant will be Pastor Beth Roegner, pianist, Renee Dowdy, congregational hymns “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art”, recorded selection “ Go Rest High On That Mountain“, casket bearers will be the grandsons and honorary casket bearers, granddaughters and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Kroll Funeral Home in Hebron, NE 3-7PM with family greeting friends 5-7PM. Memorial in care of the family. Interment will be in Bruning Public Cemetery Bruning, NE. Condolence may be left at www.krollfh.com. Kroll Funeral Home of Hebron, NE is in charge of arrangements.
