Darlene Antoinette Wiedel of Hebron, NE was born March 13, 1929 to Anton and Wilma (Stephenson) Fleming on a farm in Republic County, KS. She departed this life to meet her heavenly Father Thursday, June 24, 2021 at Parkview Haven Nursing Home in Deshler, NE at the age of 92 years.
She was baptized and confirmed October 2, 1941 at St. Edward Church in Belleville, KS.
She grew up in Republic County attending and graduating from Republic High School with the class of 1946. She took summer classes and correspondence classes at Kansas State University to receive her teaching certificate. She taught in a one room country school until 1951.
Darlene was united in marriage to Ernest Wiedel August 9, 1950 at St. Edward Church in Belleville, KS. This union was blessed with the birth of three children.
The couple then moved to a farm west of Hebron and together they farmed crops and raised cattle and hogs.
Darlene was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron, member and past president of St. Ann’s Altar Society, member of the Neighborhood Club, and Extension Club. She played golf, bridge, and gardened. She canned the produce and was a whiz at dressing chickens. She loved to cook for her family, especially baked steak, fried chicken and pies.
Later in life she worked at the Style Shop, and Hebron Livestock Café.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ernest, and son-in-law Ben Long.
She is survived by sons; Alan Wiedel and wife Susan, and Gregg Wiedel and wife Janice both of Hebron, one daughter Yvonne Long of Billings, MT, grandchildren; Scott Day of Billings, MT and Jennifer Day of Billings, MT, Jeremy Wiedel and wife Whitney of Hebron, Christine Feltes and husband Kyle of Hebron, NE, Mary Klakamp and husband Michael of Asheville, NC, Blake Wiedel and wife Blanca of Prague, OK, Heather Malchow and fiance Tanner Lipovsky of Fairfield, NE and Brittany Melvin and husband Dru of Hebron. Great-Grandchildren; Carter, and Harper Day, Alexxandra and Alyssa Malchow, Nicolas Wiedel, Jaxson, Chase, Raney, and Natalie Melvin, Devin, Sienna, Savanna, Skylar Wiedel, Ayden and Brianna Schloendorn, and Cheyenne Wiedel, Frances Darlene Feltes, Norah Klakamp and many other family and friends.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron, NE at 10:30 AM. Officiant will be Father Steve Major, organist Julie Kriesel, cantor Robin Timmermans singing “The Old Rugged Cross”, congregational hymns “Be Not Afraid”, Gift Of Finest Wheat” and “On Eagles Wings”. Casket bearers will be Scott Day, Jeremy Wiedel, Blake Wiedel, Dru Melvin, Tanner Lipovsky, Kyle Feltes, and John Timmerman. Honorary casket bearers will be the granddaughters. Memorials in care of the family, condolences may be left at www.krollfh.com. Visitation will be Monday, June 28, 2021 2-6 pm. Rosary service will be Monday at 7pm at Kroll Funeral Home in Hebron, NE.
