Corwin Lee Powell of Hebron NE, son of Reuben and Orra (Leff) Powell was born March 22, 1933 in rural Alexandria NE. He departed this life on Monday November 2, 2020 at Thayer County Health Services in Hebron NE at the age of 87 years.
Corwin grew up in the Alexandria area attending school and graduating from Alexandria High School.
He entered the United States Army April 29, 1953 where he ranked as Corporal. He was honorably discharged April 29, 1955.
Corwin married Shirley Ann Kelch September 8, 1956. This union was blessed with the birth of three children, Kimberly Kaye, Douglas Lee, and Rebecca Anne.
He worked over 30 years as a parts man for Ken-Boy Chevrolet in Hebron NE until the business closed.
On September 14 1984, he married Sharon K Melander in Geneva NE.
Some of Corwin’s favorite pastimes were buying and selling horses and mules, and raising pygmy goats. He enjoyed being outside in God’s great creation tending all the animals, growing a large garden, and playing pool with friends. He also enjoyed going to the river and watching the eagles nest.
Family was important to Corwin, especially spending time with his kids and grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Kenneth Powell and Lyle Powell, and sister Colene Powell.
He is survived by his wife Sharon of Hebron NE, brother Gary (Betty) Powell of Lincoln NE, daughter Kimberly Roth (Stephen) of Crete NE, son Douglas Powell (Melanie) of Hebron NE, daughter Rebecca Degenhardt (Max) of Hebron NE; Sharon’s children; Tim Melander (Karla) of Farmersville TX, Vicki Maschmeier (Buddy) of Columbus NE, Jay Melander (Diane) of Beaufort SC, Debra Smith (Ron) of Lincoln NE, Jodi Dewey (Marc) of Beatrice NE, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Graveside memorial service will be held Saturday November 7, 2020 at the Belvidere Cemetery in Belvidere NE at 11 am. Book signing Friday November 6, 2-6 pm at Kroll Funeral Home in Hebron.
