Charles Leroy Hinze of Hebron, NE, the son of Roy and Frances (Potast)Hinze was born October 19, 1934 in Lincoln, NE. He departed this life Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior, NE at the age of 87 years.

Chuck grew up in Burke, S.D. attending school and graduating from Burke High School. He went on to continue his education receiving his Pharmacy Degree from South Dakota University.

Chuck married Janet Krueger on November 14, 1958 in Sioux Falls, S.D. This union was blessed with four children.

In 1970, Chuck purchased Christensen Drug Store, where Chuck and Jan ran the store until 1986 when the family moved to Osceola, NE because Chuck’s parents were getting up in age and needed help. They lived there for nine years. Chuck and Jan moved back to Hebron where Chuck was employed by Priefert Pharmacy. He retired at age 77.

Chuck was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron, NE, member of the Masonic Lodge in Hebron, member of the Hebron Lions Club, and Hebron Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed being a member of the Thayer County Community Theater where he performed in numerous plays. Chuck enjoyed being a ham radio operator, playing cards, being a part of the community and spending time with his family.

He is preceded in death by his twin daughters, Mary and Carol, his parents, his mother and father-in-law, and brother-in-laws Ivan Pastain and William Jones.

He is survived by his wife Jan of Hebron, sons; Jeff Pierce and wife Connie of Pierce, SD, and Scott Hinze and wife Shelly of Palmyra, NE, two daughters; Cindy Houtwed and husband David of Cunningham, KS, and Janyce McCallon and husband Mark of Colorado Springs, CO, sister Dorothy Pastian of Tripp, SD, grandchildren; Matt Houtwed and wife Marie of Pratt, KS, Kristen Young and husband Todd of Turon, KS, Brian Houtwed and wife Samantha of Greensburg, KS, Melissa Topil and husband Noah of Omaha, NE, Nick Hinze and wife Ali of Lincoln, NE, Tyson Pierce and wife Kassi of Sioux Fall, SD, Allyson Pierce of Omaha, NE, Jordan Smith and husband Jeff Titus of Buena Vista, CO, Jerrod Smith of Colorado Springs, CO, Hope Smith of Colorado Springs, CO, 10 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Following Chuck’s wishes he was cremated and no visitation. Services will be held Friday, December 3, 2021 at Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron, NE at 11 AM. Officiant will be Pastor Keith Brozek, organist Brenda Striggow, congregational hymns “My Fortress” , “ Be Still My Soul” and “……...”, honorary casket bearers will be the grandchildren, memorials in care of the family can be mailed to Jan Hinze 115 N. 6th St. Hebron, NE 68370.
