Carl Richard Sykes Sr. passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Beatrice Community Hospital, Beatrice Nebraska, at the age of 79.  Carl was born February 26,1942 in Davenport Nebraska on the family farm. 

Mr. Carl Sykes served in the United State Military, during Vietnam war in 1966-1969 with the 81st Combat engineers and Persian Gulf War from 1990-1991.He was very proud to serve his country.  Outside the military, Carl worked as a mechanic.  He also drove several years as an over the road trucker.  Carl was always remembered for his sense of humor and jokes.  He loved making friends and family smile and laugh. 

He was preceded in death by his father Alva Robert Sykes and mother Beulah May Sykes, his brother Con Leroy Sykes and wife Betty Sykes, and wife Ruth Sykes. 

Carl was survived by his sister Merle Hoover and sister Cynthia Smetter, son Carl Sykes Jr. (Julie), son Charles Sykes (Carol),  step son Todd Bates (Connie), step son Ronald Reinwalt, step son Jeffrey Reinwalt, and step daughter Elizabeth Reininger; grandchildren James Sykes, Isabel Sykes, Hali Sykes-Denton, TJ Bates, Trenton Bates, Loree Reininger, Billy Reininger, Chad Reinwalt, Angela Reinwalt, Shaun Reinwalt; great grandchildren Jaxyn Sykes.  He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Spring Creek Cemetery Ruskin, NE at 2PM. No visitation cremation. Officiant will be Pastor Jeff Friesen. Condolence may be left at www.krollfh.com. Kroll Funeral Home of Hebron, NE is in charge of arrangements.
