Vaughan Richard Bowen of Lincoln, NE formerly Hebron was born December 5, 1940 in Wakarusa, IN to Lester and Donelda (Aspegren) Bowen. He departed this life Sunday, February 17, 2019 at Bryan LGH West in Lincoln, NE at the age of 78 years.
Vaughan grew up in Hebron, NE attending school and graduating from Hebron High School with the class of 1959. After graduating he enlisted in The United States Air Force where he was stationed in Biloxi, MS, and Lincoln, NE attending school for airplane mechanics.
He married Mary Woolston March 6, 1960 at the Christian Church in Hebron, NE. This union was blessed with the birth of four children.
Returning home he went in business with his parents at Hebron Floral. He later was the owner/ manager of the business. Vaughan’s entire family worked at the greenhouse selling retail and wholesale. Later he moved the business to Lincoln naming it B & B Greenhouse. He owned and managed the operation until his health no longer permitted.
Vaughan was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hebron, Masonic Lodge in Hebron, Rotary Club, and Norden Club.
He was an avid Nebraska Football fan, collected coins, and liked to visit with his friends.
Vaughan liked spending time with his family especially the grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Gene.
He is survived by his wife Mary of Lincoln, sons Richard and wife Monika of Rapid City, SD, and Michael and wife Kasey of Ralston, NE, two daughters; Linda Price and husband John of Aurora, CO and Diane Bowen of Lincoln, brother Darrell Bowen and wife Carmen of O’Neill, NE, sister Joyce Malone and husband Terry of Wilber, NE, sister-in-law Peg Bowen of O’Neill, NE, grandchildren; Sarah Eichhorn and husband Brad of Sioux Falls, SD, Logan Bowen of Newburg, OR, Lindsey Bowen of Rogue River, OR, Brody and Gavin Bowen of Ralston, NE, nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Kroll Funeral Home in Hebron, NE 2-7 PM.
Memorial service will be Saturday, March 2, 2019 at the United Methodist Church in Hebron at 10:30 AM. Officiant Pastor Rick Jones, organist Diane Smith, congregational hymns “In The Garden”, and “Nearer My God To Thee”, soloist Finley Woolston singing “I’ll Fly Away” and “Sweet Beulah Land”. Honorary casket bearers; Sarah Eichhorn, Brad Eichhorn, Logan Bowen, Lindsey Bowen, Brody Bowen, Gavin Bowen and Rob Ammeter. Inurnment will be in Hebron City Cemetery.
