Shirley K. (Bowman) Baker the daughter of Irvin and Rosetta (Voss) Bowman was born November 30, 1941 on a farm near Bruning, NE. She died Thursday, December 1, 2005 in Hebron, NE at the Thayer County Health Services at the age
of 64.
Shirley was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bruning, NE where she has been a life long member.
Shirley grew up in the Bruning area and attended country school through the 7th grade and then graduated from Bruning High School in 1959. Following high school, she was employed at Bankers Life Insurance Co. in Lincoln, NE where she worked for 3 years. While working in Lincoln, Shirley met Dean at a dance in Hubbell, NE. They were united in marriage on April 29, 1962 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bruning. They lived and raised their family on a farm in rural Carleton. This union was blessed with 4 children, Lori, Steven, Shelli, and Stacey.
Shirley was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Women’s Group and weekly bible study in Bruning, NE. Shirley was also involved in the Belvidere Homemaker Extention Club. Shirley looked forward to her many outings with her friends in the birthday group and volunteering as an usher for the Leid Center in Lincoln, NE. She enjoyed the many years she worked at the Hebron Sale Barn and being a part of the South Central Cattle Women’s Club.
Shirley’s life revolved around her family whether sitting on the floor playing a game with the grandkids or attending their various sporting events, they could always count on Grandma to be there. She would affectionately refer to them as “dolly”, “dandy boy”, or “snicklefritz”.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Irvin and Rosetta Bowman.
Shirley is survived by her husband Dean of Carleton, NE, one son Steven and wife Jill of Hebron, NE, three daughters, Lori Kelly and husband Charles of Las Vegas, NV, Shelli Buhr and husband Kevin of Cortland, NE, Stacey McLaughlin and husband Lathan of Hebron, NE, brother Mike Bowman and wife Kathy of Central City, NE, and 10 grandchildren, one nephew Joe Bowman and also many cousins, distant relatives and many close friends.
Funeral services will be held this Saturday Dec 3, 2005, 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bruning, NE. Officiant Reverend Stuart Sell, Organist Janelle Bruning, Congregational hymns “In The Garden”, “How Great Thou Art”, Special selection by the family “Beautiful Savior”, Taped selection “You Raise Me Up”; Casket bearers, Ken Else, Pete Bowman, Russ Priefert, Leroy Voss, Michael Young, Dick Templin; Honorary casket bearers (Grandchildren) Brenner Mclaughlin, Trenton Buhr, Gage Baker, Kalie Kelly, Shelbi Buhr, Lane Baker, Elle Baker, Sean Kelly, Morgan Buhr, Emma Baker. Visitation will be Friday Dec. 2, 2005 from 9AM to 7PM at Hebron Memorial Funeral Home in Hebron, NE. Burial will be held at the Bruning Public Cemetery. Memorials to the family’s choice. Hebron Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
