Richard Medina of Deshler, NE the son of Serapio and Frances (Leon) Medina was born April 19, 1931 in Goodland, KS. He departed this life Monday, April 22, 2019 at Parkview Haven Nursing Home in Deshler, NE at the age of 88 years.

 

Richard grew up in Goodland, KS attending school before moving to Plymouth, NE where he went to his freshman and sophomore years, then moved to Deshler where he graduated from Deshler High School with the class of 1950.

 

He enlisted in the United States Air Force March 20, 1952 and was honorably discharged March 31, 1972. During his enlistment he served in Korea and Vietnam. Richard was a plumbing instructor 10 years at Sheppard Air Force Base at Wichita Falls, Texas.

 

Returning home, he went to work for The University of Nebraska in Lincoln as a plumber. In 1972 he moved back to Deshler, NE where he went to work with his sons and started Medina & Sons Plumbing.

 

On March 24, 1956 he married Darlene Hinz at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron, NE by Msgr. Clarence Crowley. This union was blessed with the birth of seven children.

 

Richard enjoyed reading, watching sports but most of all spending time with his family, most of all the grandchildren.

 

He was member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron, Knights of Columbus, and Deshler American Legion Club.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Lisa Ann, one sister Margaret Diaz, and two brothers Jose and Ramon.

 

He is survived by his wife Darlene of Deshler, three sons; David and wife Julie of Lincoln, Daniel and wife Laurie of Dallas, TX, and Gilbert and wife Catherine of Dallas, three daughters; Patricia Medina of Lincoln, LaVerne Starks and husband Eric of Lincoln, and Laura Medina of Brattleboro, VT, 20 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, brothers; Robert and wife Susan of Ralston, NE, and Matthew and wife Bobbie Jo of LaVista, NE,  nieces, nephews and friends.

 

Mass of the Christian Burial will be Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Hebron. Officiant will be Father Rudy Oborny, acolytes; Francis Rauner, Jr. and Greg Drohman, readers; (Grandsons)Landon Johnson and Eric Starks, organist Julie Kriesel, cantor Robin Timmermans, congregational hymns “Only A Shadow”, “Be Not Afraid” and “Here I Am Lord”. No visitation/cremation. Rosary service will be held Friday April 26, at Kroll Funeral Home Chapel in Hebron at 7 PM. Condolences may be left at www.krollfh.com. Memorial in care of the family. Inurnment in the church cemetery with military honors by Thayer County American Legion Posts. Honorary casket bearers will be the grandsons and granddaughters. Kroll Funeral Home of Deshler, NE is in charge of arrangements.
