Monte Joel Gehle of Chester, NE- son of Myron (Jim) Gehle and Marla (Jeanne) (Hoops) Braithwait- was born February 19, 1964 in Belleville, KS. He departed this life at his residence in rural Chester, NE on Thursday, June 6, 2019 after battling cancer.

Monte grew up in Chester, NE where he also attended school and graduated from Chester-Hubbell High School with the class of 1982.

He was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Byron, NE and was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Chester, NE. He was a church member and served on church council at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Byron, NE then at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler, NE.

Monte married Rita Nelson on November 16, 1985 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Byron, NE. This union was blessed with the birth of two children: Amanda Gehle and Brandon Gehle.

Monte was interested in farming from a young age. He enjoyed being outdoors and in God’s great creation. His persistence; solution-oriented mindset; and ability to come up with, build and implement improvements and creative solutions served him well in farming and in life. He had many diverse skillsets which he put to use- often single handedly- in order that equipment and processes be more efficient and easier to operate. It seemed as though he could do almost anything, even with one hand.

Monte was extremely grateful for and took care of what he had, especially his family and close friends. He enjoyed listening to music, spending time with loved ones, and cherished time with his grandchildren. He was able to find the bright side, even amidst challenges, and also encouraged others in this regard. While he was not one to tell others how they ought to live or do things, he had a heart for mentorship which was shared with his children, with his farm hands, and while serving as a Peer Mentor for AgrAbility.

He is survived by his wife Rita(Nelson)Gehle of Chester, NE; his daughter Amanda Gehle of New York, NY; his son, Brandon Gehle and special friend Tonya Cruz of Chester, NE; his grandchildren, Kailyn and Kinslie Gehle and Tatiana Cruz; his father Myron (Connie) Gehle of Byron, NE; his mother Marla (Del) Braithwait of Hebron, NE; brother Mylan Gehle and wife Becky of Republic, KS; brother Michael Gehle and wife Tammy of Hardy, NE; sister Misty Gehle and companion Paul Fechtmeister of Laramie, WY; mother-in-law Lorrainne D. Nelson formerly Newman Grove and Norfolk, NE, now of Hebron, NE; brothers-in-law Ricky Nelson (Roxanne) of Hastings, NE, Randall Nelson (Robyn) of Scandia, KS; Russell Nelson of Norfolk, NE, nieces; nephews; and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Adolph and Lenora (Ahrens) Gehle; maternal grandparents Edwin and Ruby (Meyer) Hoops and Hazel (Naysmith); Hoops; father-in-law Eugene T. Nelson; infant niece, Mickala Rene’e Gehle; and nephew Colton Jon Stensaas.

Funeral service will be Monday, June 10, 2019 at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler at 10:30AM. Officiants will be Pastors Dan Cloeter and Lee Hoops(Monte’s uncle). Organist Julia Pohlmann, congregational hymns “Amazing Grace”, “In The Garden”, “Softly And Tenderly”, and “Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus”. Visitation will be Sunday, June 9, 2019 at Kroll Funeral Home in Hebron, NE from 2-7PM with family greeting friends from 3-5PM.
