Melvin Fredrick Rippe of Hebron, NE the son of Henry and Mathilda (Fangmeyer) Rippe was born September 4, 1922 at Byron, NE. He departed this life Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home in Hebron, NE at the age of 96 years.

Melvin was baptized September 1922 at St. John Lutheran Church in Byron, NE by Reverend Lenz. He was confirmed July 28, 1935 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stoddard, NE.

He attended country school at Stoddard, District 100 through the 8th grade.

Melvin married Adeline Loetta Voss June 2, 1946 at Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron, NE. This union was blessed with the birth of four daughters.

Farming was Melvin’s life. He enjoyed being out in God’s great creation. Raising crops and cattle.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron, where he was active on various committees.

After his retirement from the farm, Melvin enjoyed woodworking, making different crafts to share with family members especially during the holiday season.

Melvin enjoyed spending time with his family most of all the grandchildren, sometimes saying words in German letting the kids guess what they meant. He liked the history of Thayer County sharing stories about how things were when he grew up and all the changes that have taken place.

Melvin and Adeline moved to Hebron enjoying being in town. Later they moved into assisted living as their health declined before moving to Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Edwin and wife Melinda, Elmer and wife LaVern, Clarence, and Raymond, sister Lydia Harms and husband Arno, one grandson Andrew Karrer, granddaughter Donna Stradley and brother-in-law John Ulsh.

He is survived by his wife Adeline of Hebron, four daughters; Sharon Woltemath and husband Ivan of Hamburg, IA, Kathleen Kniep and husband George of Ruskin, NE, Evon Svoboda and husband Russ of Hubbell, NE, and Joan Karrer and husband Jim of Wichita, KS, sister Phyliss Ulsh of Portland, OR, sister-in-law Shirley Rippe of Hebron, 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron, NE at 1:30 PM. Officiant Pastor Keith Brozek, organist Brenda Striggow, congregational hymns, “Faith Of Our Fathers”, “This Is My Fathers World” and “Beautiful Savior”, casket bearers; Mike Woltemath, Troy Kniep, Travis Stradley, Ryan Stradley, James Karrer, and Tim Svoboda, visitation will be Monday, October 1, 2018 at Kroll Funeral Home in Hebron 2-7PM.
