Marlyn F. Huber, 94 years, passed away July 9, 2018 at home in Buford, GA formerly from Bruning, NE.. He was born to Wilber and Beulah (Carpenter) Huber, December 9, 1923, near Williams, NE. He attended rural schools around Hubbell, NE. He graduated from Alexandria High School in 1941.

Marlyn was inducted into the Army, May, 1943 at Fort Crook, NE. His tour of service during WWII was in the South Pacific. He was one of the 122 men of the Midwest states that made up the 421st Engineer Dump Truck Company that were stationed in Guadalcanal, Luzon of the Philippine Island, and Occupation Forces in Japan. Marlyn was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with one Battle Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, American Theatre Service Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He was discharged January 9, 1946 from Fort Logan, Colorado.

While stationed in Tacoma, Washington, Marlyn married Marie Maulik on July 27, 1943. Two daughters were born to this union, Deanna (Huber) Bauer and Debrah (Huber) Atcheson.

Marlyn worked as a superintendent for Olson Construction Company of Lincoln, NE for 34 years, building churches, apartments, the Nebraska Historical Society building, northwest seating and press box on the UNL Football Stadium, banks and malls around Lincoln, NE. His jobs took him to Beatrice, Grand Island, Millard, and Hallam. During this time he also taught a blue print course for the University of NE. For several years, he worked in South Dakota building the Veteran’s Home in Sturgis and a church and other building at Ellsworth Air Force Base.

Marlyn’s last five years of superintendent work was for Superior Industries building the Hormel Hog Processing Plant in Austin, Minnesota, and Freezers in South Dakota, Minnesota, Arkansas, and Maine.

Marlyn retired to their vacation home at Tuttle Creek in 1986. In 1988, Marlyn and his wife moved to Bruning, NE, where he continued construction work, lawn service, snow removal, all around “Handy Man”, and raised a big garden. In 2013, they moved to Buford, GA to be closer to daughters.

Marlyn designed and helped erect the Veteran’s Monument at the Thayer County Courthouse in Hebron, NE. He belonged to the Bruning Methodist Church, was a Life time member of both the American Legion and Veteran’s Foreign War, and serves on the Thayer County Veteran’s Committee.

Marlyn enjoyed hunting with his three dogs, fishing, golfing, bowling, rock hunting and making jewelry, playing horseshoes, dancing, reading, and playing cribbage with the Bruning gang every afternoon. No matter what the topic was, it always reminded him of a good story to share.

He is preceded in Death by his wife, Marie, his parents: Mr. & Mrs. Wilber Huber, son-in-law David Bauer, granddaughter-Anitra Vogel and granddaughter-in-law-Kristi Vogel.

Marlyn is survived by his daughter-Deanna Bauer, daughter & husband-Debrah & Richard Atcheson of Buford, GA; grandchildren-Angela Earley of Slidell, LA, Anson (Troy) Vogel of Hinton, IA, Kari Atcheson of Oregon, OH, Laura Atcheson of New Orleans, LA; great granddaughters-Krystle Rosenberg, AlannaRae & JessaLee Earley of Slidell, LA, Kayla Rosenberg of New Orleans, LA, Shawna, Kendra and Erica Vogel of Woodbine, IA, Autumn Holzemer, Molly & Quinn Grehl of Oregon, OH. Besides his immediate family, he leaves several cousins, lots of acquaintances, and many friends



Following Maryln’s wishes he was cremated. Memorial services will be held Monday, August 6, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Bruning, NE at 11 AM, Officiant will be Pastor Martin Leeper, organist Jodi Meyer, soloist Susan Kerl singing “Ivory Palaces” and “Softly And Tenderly”, inurnment will be in the Belvidere Cemetery with military honors by Bruning American Legion Posts. Memorial in lieu of flowers to The Belvidere Woman’s Club in care of Kroll Funeral Home 330 North 5th St. Hebron, NE 68370. Condolences may be left at www.krollfh.com.
