Lula Mae Culler was born March 30, 1933 in Deshler, NE to  Charles and Clara (Uphoff) Brettmann. She departed this life on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Hearthstone in York, NE at the age of 85 years.

She was baptized April 16, 1933 and confirmed June 8, 1947 both at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler.

Lula grew up in Deshler attending and graduating from Deshler High School with the Class of 1951.

She married Delbert Culler on July 21, 1954 at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler, NE. This union was blessed with the birth of four children.

The couple lived in Hebron where she worked at Central Market before moving to Deshler. She went to work at the Deshler Broom Factory for 33 years, working in all different facets of broom making. She retired due to an injury at work.

She was hard working and enjoyed canning and gardening. She always made sure there were no weeds in her garden, as this was her children’s responsibility.

She liked to be in God’s creation, fishing with the kids and packing fried chicken and potato salad for a picnic lunch. She also loved bowling, playing softball and watching Nebraska Football. Spending time with her family was also very important to Lula, especially time with the grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, son Jerry Culler, brother Arnold Brettmann and wife Lucille, sisters Lillian Fangmeyer and husband Martin, and Dorothy Pequette and husband Clarence.

She is survived by her husband Delbert of York, NE; sons Cary Culler and special friend Vicki Fintel of Gretna, NE, and Kirk Culler and wife Michelle of Hebron, NE; daughter Kim and wife Shelly of Benedict, NE; grandchildren Brock Culler and wife Jess of Grand Island, NE, Jarvis Culler and wife May of Kearney, NE, Jory Wheeler and husband Matt of Gordon, NE, Travis Kolling and wife Melissa of Tempe, AZ, Austin Kolling and wife Kendra of Wichita, KS, Garrett Kolling of Tempe, AZ, Blayne Culler and fiancée Maycee Charmaine of Papillion, NE, Tanner Culler and wife Paige of Gretna, NE, Spencer Culler and wife Amy of Afton, IA, Paige Thompson and husband Jacob of Hebron, Matt Culler and wife Courtney of Kearney, NE; great-grandchildren Kenna, Morgan, Mikah, Madden, Kian, and Aria Culler, Taylor, Aubrey, Tyson, Kane, and Kinlee Kolling, Brenner, Kipton, Brecken and expected girl Aylin Culler, nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorial service will be Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Peach Lutheran Church in Deshler, NE at 11am. No visitation, cremation. Officiant will be Pastor Dan Cloeter, organist Julia Pohlmann, congregational hymns “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art”, recorded selection “Us and Them” by Pink Floyd, honorary casket bearers are the grandchildren, memorials in care of the family.
