Lois Marie Ream of Alexandria, NE the daughter of Ernest and Gladys (Powell) Mahaffey was born August 11, 1929 in Belvidere, NE. She departed this life Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home in Hebron at the age of 89 years.

 

She grew up on a farm near Alexandria area and attended country school District 36 and graduated from Alexandria High School with the class of 1947. She continued her education at Fairbury Junior College taking Normal Training then taught 2 years at a country school near Daykin.

 

She married Daryl Ream January 12, 1951 at the Presbyterian Church in Alexandria, NE. This union was blessed with the birth of three children.

 

Lois was a farm girl and helped Daryl with all the farm chores milking, haying, and field work along with growing a large garden, canning and raising chickens. She taught herself to sew and enjoyed making clothes for herself and her two little girls.

 

Lois spent most of her life also involved with the 4-H program as a member, leader and volunteer supporter with her children and grandsons Jamie and Shawn. She was an active member for many years of the American Legion Auxiliary.

 

Later she took up sewing again by making stuffed toys for her grandkids or sew one up quick for a neighbor or friend. She sold them at craft shows and Miller & Paine in Lincoln, NE. Her hobby was collecting toys and she loved to go with Daryl or Nancy and Donna to garage sales, thrift stores and shops looking for “special treasures”. She has large collections of Kool-Aid collectibles, Care Bears, and sock monkeys.

 

She liked spending time with her family and the grandchildren and enjoyed going everywhere with Nancy on adventures near and far.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Daryl, and one infant brother, and one sister Luree Marschmann.

 

She is survived by one son Blaine Ream and wife Kathy of Meridian, ID, two daughters; Nancy Baden and husband Dale of Alexandria, NE and Donna Durflinger and husband Dennis of Belleville, KS, brother Larry Mahaffey of Alexandria, NE, sisters Linda Ebbers and husband Dale of Wilber, NE, and Lula Bell Korber and husband David of Bern, KS, brother-in-law Ernest Marschmann of Daykin, NE, grandchildren; Jamie Baden of Lincoln, NE, Shawn Baden and wife Jessica of Lincoln, NE, Sandie Kueker and husband Adam of Heston, KS, Heidi Durflinger and husband Alex Sappok of Newtonville, MA, Kyle Durflinger of Lakewood, CO, and Derek Ream of Meridian, ID, great-grandchildren Amelia Baden, Joey, Katie and Jacob Kueker, nieces, nephews and friends.

 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 10:30 AM at United Methodist Church in Bruning, NE. Officiant Martin Leeper, organist Jodi Meyer, congregational hymn “The Old Rugged Cross”, “In The Garden”, recorded selection “In The Good Old Summer Time”, visitation will be Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Kroll Funeral Home in Hebron from 2-7 PM with family greeting friends 5-7PM. Burial will be in the Carleton Cemetery. Casket bearers are grandchildren. Memorials in care of the family. Condolences may be left at www.krollfh.com.
