Jay D. Pitts the son of Milford and Mildred (Dorman) Pitts was born January 7, 1940 in rural Hebron. He departed this life on Thursday, September 1, 2005 at the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, NE at the age of 65.

Jay was baptized at the First Christian Church in Hebron, NE on December 30, 1951 by Pastor E.E. Bridwell. He attended Hackney country school until the eighth grade. He then quit to help his father farm.

He met his wife Beverly Hasselbring in 1955 and they were married on December 29, 1958. To this union, three daughters were born; Jeannie, Jackie, and Betty. They first lived in Davenport, NE and Jay farmed for Bud and Lucille Voigt for one year. Then they moved to rural Alexandria where they farmed and milked cows. Jay also helped his father and his father-in-law farm.

In 1961 the family moved to a farm southwest of Gilead, NE, which was a gift from Beverly’s parents. There they continued farming and milking cows. Jay also worked for Hebron Livestock Co. and Case I H Implement in Hebron. They moved to Hebron, NE in 2000 and Jay continued to farm until this last year when his health began to fail.

Jay always enjoyed being out with his friends. He liked helping friends farm and work on machinery. He enjoyed going on Feeder tours and doing barbeques for friends and the Feeders. He was also a racing fan and when he was younger he helped build a demolition car that was a winning entry. He also loved anything to do with farm tractors and was always ready to tell or hear a good joke.

Jay loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, but most of all, he loved his great-grandchildren. They were his pride and joy.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Milford and Mildred Pitts and son-in-law Timothy Gregory.

Jay is survived by his wife Beverly J.(Hasselbring)Pitts of Hebron, NE, three daughters Jeannie VanWesten and husband Roger of Alexandria, NE, Jackie Gregory and special friend Kenny Milius of Reynolds, NE, Betty Mammen and husband Bryce of Hebron, NE.
