Irma married Benjamin Headrick on October 14, 1934. They began their life together on a farm near Alexandria. Being a farm wife was different for Irma as she helped her husband with milking the cows, tending to the hogs, and all other farm related tasks. This union was blessed with the birth of four daughters. The family moved to Daykin on December 1, 1945. While in Daykin, Ben worked at the Daykin Lumber Yard and Irma worked at the grocery store and the U.S. Post Office from 1955-1958. In December of 1958, they moved to Hebron. During this time, Irma worked at the Hesteds Store (Dime Store). Then in May of 1960 they moved to Carleton as owners of the Carleton Lumber Yard. She retired in 1991 with 31 years of service. On April 14, 1991 Ben died suddenly and not long after, Irma had a home built along Lincoln Avenue in Hebron, NE.
