Elden G. Bauer the son of Oscar J. and Minnie L. (Onnen) Bauer was born November 21, 1911 near Gladstone, NE. He departed this life on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at Blue Valley Nursing Home in Hebron, NE at the age of 95 years.

Elden is the oldest of four children. Eldon was baptized on Dec 10, 1911 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Gladstone by Pastor Zagel and confirmed March 26, 1926 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Gladstone by Pastor F. W. Bangert. Growing up in the Gladstone area and attended school 2 years at District 25, then 6 years at Gladstone Trinity Lutheran School. He graduated from Fairbury High School. He then went to Concordia College in Seward, NE for a few months studying theology, but decided he would rather farm. Eldon then started a dairy farm. Elden was the first draftee of Jefferson County, serving his country during WW II from January 10, 1941 to December 14, 1945 as Harbor Defense in San Diego, CA and later as a sergeant in the Military Police.

Elden married Martha Fangmeier on November 26, 1959. The couple adopted 2 children.
Martha has been his life partner, and helper in all that he did. The couple stopped farming in 1994 and moved into the parsonage in rural Gladstone on the ground they owned after the church closed. They planted roses where the church once stood and are proud of the beauty they provide. Elden enjoyed the daily newspaper, radio and TV especially sporting events, football being his favorite.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Harold, and Oscar Bauer and one sister Irene Bangert.

He is survived by his wife Martha, one brother Martin Bauer and wife Lois of Lincoln, NE. son Monty and is wife Donna of Fairbury, NE. and one daughter Theresa Kapke and husband Dennis of Fairbury, NE.grandchildren; Carrie Portenier and husband Doug of Leavenworth, KS, Carmen Brahmer and husband Mark of Pierce, NE, Matthew Kapke of Fairbury, NE, Christina Cole and husband Neil of Fairbury, NE, Jesse and Elliott Bauer of Trenton, TN great-grandchildren; Hope, Heather, and Cole Portenier, Jaci, Maggie and Benjamin Brahmer, Shaun, Bret and Cobie Cole, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday 1:30 PM November 25, 2006 at Grace Lutheran Church, Fairbury, NE. Officiating Reverend Charles Schmidt. Visitation will be held at Hebron Memorial Funeral Home in Hebron, NE from 9am to 7pm and one hour before service at the church. Casket bearers; David Blackburn, Matthew Kapke, Gilbert Bangert,
Elliott Bauer, Neil Cole, Kent Bauer, Jesse Bauer, Doug Portenier, and Mark Brahmer. Organist Ardys Schultis, congregational hymns, "In The Garden", "How Great Thou Art", and "Amazing Grace". Burial will be held at Grace Lutheran Cemetery, rural Gladstone, NE with military honors by VFW Honor Guard Post #3113, Fairbury, NE. Hebron Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials in care of the family.
