Edward O. Higel the son of Herman and Freida (Rippe) Higel was born July 7, 1918, rural Carleton. He departed this life on Wednesday August 31, 2005 at the Heritage Care Center in Fairbury, NE at the age of 87.

 

Edward was baptized July 28, 1918 and confirmed April 9, 1933 by Reverend J.B. Clonek in Bruning.

 

When Ed was young the family moved to a farm near Bruning, NE where he spent most of his childhood and attended the Bruning School through the 8th grade. He continued his love for farming all of his life. August 8, 1947 he married Frances Marian Weaver at the house of Reverend J.B. Clonek. This union was blessed with the birth of seven children. When Ed had a little spare time he enjoyed, playing cards, going to the sale barn, and watching TV, and going to auctions mostly to visit.

 

Ed was a hard worker all of his life. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

 

Ed was preceded in death by one daughter Sheila, his wife Frances in 1995, one brother Melvin and one sister Adeline.

 

He is survived by one daughter Deann Young and husband Gary Myers of St. Joseph MO, five sons Kent and special friend Kimberly Skeens , and Stanley both of Alexandria, NE, Douglas and wife Sylvia of Clatonia, NE, Edwin and wife Tonja of Daykin, NE, and Orval and wife Marcia of Plattsmouth, NE, one sister LaVerne Rippe and husband Elmer of Hebron, NE, three grandchildren, Melissa Kissler, Mitchell Myers, and Tyson Higel, one great-grandchild Natalee Kissler.

 

Funeral services will be held Friday September 2, 2005, at 10:30 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron, NE. Officiants will be Reverend Jon Jensen and Nancy Mitchell PMA, visitation will be held on Thursday Sept 1 at Hebron Memorial Funeral Home from 9AM to 7PM. Casket bearers Bob Barton, Billy Barton, Jack Walls, Joe Price, Bob Helget, Ernest Marschman. Organist Brenda Striggow, congregational hymns “How Great Thou Art”, “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”, “Old Rugged Cross”. Burial will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Hebron. Memorials to the family. Hebron Memorial Funeral Home of Hebron, NE is in charge of arrangements.
