Duane Walter Durflinger, age 82, was born on November 25, 1922 in Munden, Kansas and died on October 14, 2005 at Grand Island Veterans Home in Grand Island, Nebraska. His parents were Dennis J. and Marguerite (Strosnider)Durflinger.

Duane graduated from Alexandria High School in Alexandria, Nebraska in May of 1941 and then enlisted in the United States Air Force on December 8, 1941. He spent the entire duration of World War II on various islands in the Pacific. After being honorably discharged in 1946 he worked on the farm and attended Milford Technical School where he graduated as a certified diesel mechanic on March 31, 1950.

On November 22, 1950 he was united in marriage to Laura Virginia Ring of Lincoln, Nebraska. They lived on a farm near Hebron, Nebraska where he farmed and worked as a mechanic in Hebron for most of the rest of his life.

Duane was a member of Hebron Veterans of Foreign Wars post and various other organizations. He was a lifetime member of the VFW.

He is survived by his two sons, Randall Kent Durflinger of Bruning, Nebraska and Dennis Duane Durflinger and wife Donna of Belleville, Kansas. One brother Wendal Durflinger and wife Betsy of San Diego, CA. Six grandchildren Bradley Durflinger and wife April of Wymore, NE, Jesse and Jamie Durflinger of Bruning, NE, Sandie(Durflinger)Kueker and husband Adam of Wichita, KS, Heidi Durflinger of Boston, MA, and Kyle Durflinger of Belleville, KS. Four great-grandchildren, Caleb and Kellsey Durflinger of Wymore, NE and Joey and Katie Kueker of Wichita, KS, he is also survived by a sister-in-law Eva Durflinger of Alexandria, NE.

He is preceded in death by his wife Laura, parents Dennis and Marguerite Durflinger, and five brothers Darrel, Vinton, Verle, Orris and Audrey.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at Hebron Memorial Chapel, Hebron, NE at 2:00 PM. Officiant will be Pastor John Walton. Organist Ila Currey. Visitation will be on Monday from 9AM to 7PM at Hebron Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be at Hubbell City Cemetery, Hubbell, NE. Memorials have been established. Hebron Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
