Dorothy Mae Priefert of Beatrice, NE, formerly Belvidere, NE, the daughter of Lloyd and Georgia (Meyers) Slaybaugh, was born April 24, 1930 in Geneva, NE. She departed this life Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Beatrice Community Hospital in Beatrice, NE at the age of 89 years.
Dorothy grew up in the Geneva area attending school and graduating from Geneva High School.
She married Leland Priefert October 28, 1955 in Norfolk, NE. This union was blessed with the birth of two children.
Dorothy had a green thumb, raising a large garden and canning the produce. She was a proficient seamstress, making clothes and toys for her children and grandchildren, as well as creative crafts. Dorothy loved everything related to cooking, from cutting out recipes from magazines to watching TV cooking shows in her later years. The family share many memories around her home cooked meals. After moving to Hebron she volunteered with the hospital guild, especially enjoying her work at the Things and Stuff shop. Dorothy loved spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The couple spent most of their lives farming near Belvidere before retiring and moving to Beatrice, NE in 1996.
Dorothy was a former member of The First Christian Church of Hebron and the Church of Christ of Chester. After moving to Beatrice, they attended Christ Community Church.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lee, brother Don Slaybaugh and wife Barbara and grandson Jarod Priefert.
She is survived by her son James Priefert of Hebron, daughter Sally Williamson and husband Rick of Oklahoma City, OK, seven grandchildren; Kerri Witten and husband Todd of Owasso, OK, Jessica Burchardt and husband Travis of Oklahoma City, OK, Abby Baxter and husband Riley of Lone Tree, CO, Hannah Gant and husband Frank of Oklahoma City, OK, Brandon Priefert and wife Jenny of Gretna, NE, Chadly Priefert, Tara Caroon of Hebron, NE, and Paige Culler and husband Tanner of Gretna, NE, fifteen great-grandchildren; Emmalyn, Blake, Tyler and Claire Witten, Jaxson and Collins Baxter, Preston, Layton and Adrianna Gant, Grayson, Rylan and Hayden Priefert, Hudson Priefert, Kipton and Aylin Culler, and other relatives and friends.
Memorial service will be Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Kroll Funeral Home Chapel in Hebron, NE at 10:30 AM. Officiant will be Pastor Steve Speichinger. Cremation no visitation. Condolence may be left at www.krollfh.com. Private family inurnment will be in the Geneva Cemetery Geneva, NE. Kroll Funeral Home of Hebron, NE is in charge of arrangements.
