Donna Lee Harms of Hebron, NE the daughter of Henry and Anetta (Bartels) Graue was born May 29, 1932 in Republic County, KS. She departed this life Sunday, July 28, 2019 at Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home in Hebron, NE at the age of 87 years.

 

Donna was baptized on June 12, 1932 by Pastor Strassen and confirmed April 29,1945 by Pastor Hilst both at St. John Lutheran Church in Chester, NE.

 

Donna grew up in the Chester area attending Country School Star District #57 and graduating from Chester High School with the class of 1949.

 

After high school Donna taught in country schools in the Chester, Hardy area for two years.

 

Donna was united in marriage to Rudolph Harms June 3, 1951 at St. John Lutheran Church in Chester, NE. This union was blessed with the birth of three children.

 

They lived on a farm near Chester and later near Byron, NE.

 

Donna was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron, NE.

 

She went to work at Blue Valley Lutheran Care Home in Hebron in the dietary department and worked there for 25 years. She later joined the Foster Grandparent Program at Head Start and then Thayer Central School working with the preschool students from 2001 till 2018. She loved the kids and the kids loved her.

 

Donna loved spending time with her friends, having coffee and visiting, taking walks and raising many beautiful flowers. The highlight in Donna’s life was spending time with her family, children, grandson, and great-granddaughter.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents, former husband Rudolph, brother Harlan Graue, sisters; Arlene Hoops and husband Wilbur, Lucille (Meyer) Gerberding and husbands Clarence Meyer and Harold Gerberding, and brother-in-law Vernon Hoops.

 

She is survived by her son Alan Harms and wife Sally of Wisner, NE, and two daughters; Pauline Harms of Superior, NE and Judy Harms of Hastings, NE, sisters Mary Ann Black and husband Bruce of Hastings, and Norma Hoops of Hastings, grandson Mark Harms and wife Leslie and great-granddaughter Katherine Harms of Lincoln, NE, nieces, nephews and friends.

 

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron at 10 AM. Officiant will be Pastor Keith Brozek, organist Brenda Striggow, congregational hymns “Take My Hand Precious Lord”, “Amazing Grace” and “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”, visitation will be Tuesday, July 30, 2019 from 3 pm to 7 pm with family greeting friends 5-7 PM. Memorial in care of the family. Casket Bearers: Mark Harms, Dale Hoops, Mike Hoops, Jim Black, Kurk Wiedel, and Henry Laber.  Condolences may be left at www.krollfh.com. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery rural Chester, NE. Kroll Funeral Home of Hebron, NE is in charge of arrangements.
