Donna Elaine Bartels of Deshler, NE was born on September 15, 1923 to George and Marie(Schleif) Anderson of rural Oak, NE. She departed this life on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Parkview Haven Nursing Home in Deshler, NE at the age of 85 years.

Donna was the youngest of three children. Donna was baptized on October 7, 1923 by G.J. Heitmann and confirmed on September 5, 1937 by G.A. Spring both at St. Paul Lutheran Church of rural Deshler. She attended country school by Ruskin and graduated from Ruskin High School.

Donna married Glenn Bartels on February 13, 1943 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. They made their home on a farm by Ruskin for several years and then moved to Deshler. Donna worked at Blue Valley Lutheran Home of Hebron, Deshler Broom Factory, and Reinke Manufacturing Co. Glenn passed away in 1976.

Donna enjoyed gardening, watching sporting events on television, playing cards, reading, and listening to the radio. Her favorite trips were to visit her daughters and their families in Napa, CA and Colorado. She is a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler. After a short stay at Blue Valley Lutheran Home in Hebron, she moved to Meadowlark Heights Assisted Living in Deshler. She then became a resident of Parkview Haven Nursing Home on March 9, 2004.

Donna is preceded by her parents, her husband Glenn, brother Melvin Anderson, and daughter Janice Gregory.

She is survived by her daughter Connie Rogers and husband Robert of Napa, CA, sister Marian Kottmeyer of Kearney, NE, and son-in-law Jerry Gregory of Bailey, CO. grandchildren; Patrick Gregory of Longmont, CO, Christopher Gregory and wife Darcy of Rapid City, SD, Jeffrey Hansen and wife Jennifer of Napa, CA, Robert D. Rogers and wife Mona of Newberry Springs, CA, 3 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler, NE. Pastor Phillip Nielsen will be officiating. Organist will be Deb Pohlmann. Congregational hymns "Blessed Assurance", "Beautiful Savior", and "Borning Cry". Casket Visitation will be Friday June 5, 2009 from 1pm to 7pm at Deshler Memorial Funeral Home in Deshler, NE. Casket bearers: Patrick Gregory, Christopher Gregory, Jeffrey Hansen, Robert Jacobe, Jack Pagel, and Merlyn Pohlmann. Burial will be at Peace Lutheran Cemetery in Deshler, NE. Memorials in care of family. Deshler Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
