Delbert Dean Culler of York, NE formerly Deshler, the son of Ernest and Mabel (Pflum) Culler was born June 15, 1930 in Hardy, NE. He departed this life Sunday, December 8, 2019 at York General Hearthstone in York, NE at the age of 89 years.

Delbert grew up in Chester, NE attending school and graduating from Chester High School with the class of 1949.

He entered the United States Army May 17, 1950 and was honorably discharged May 16, 1953. He received the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Campaign Stars and United Nations Service Medal.

Delbert married Lula Mae Brettmann July 21, 1954 at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler, NE. This union was blessed with the birth of four children.

Following his father’s footsteps, he went to work for the Rock Island Railroad. He started his life career in 1954 going to work for The Nebraska Department of Roads and retired in November 1995 working 41 years.

Music was always a favorite of Delbert’s, waking up setting on the edge of his bed playing his guitar. Nebraska Football was a must until they got behind, then he would get up and go in the back yard, not wanting to watch until they got ahead. He was also a great ping-pong player.

He enjoyed attending the sporting events of his children and grandchildren, but most of all just spending time with family especially the grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Lula, son Jerry, brother Wayne, and two sisters; Margaret Burton and Maurine Loop.

He is survived by sons Cary Culler and Vicki Fintel of Gretna, NE, and Kirk Culler and wife Michelle of Hebron, NE; daughter Kim Windhorst and wife Shelly of Benedict, NE; grandchildren; Brock Culler and wife Jess of Grand Island, NE, Jarvis Culler and wife May of Kearney, NE, Jory Wheeler and husband Matt of Grand Island, NE, Travis Kolling and wife Melissa of Tempe, AZ, Austin Kolling and wife Kendra of Wichita, KS, Garrett Kolling of Tempe, AZ, Blayne Culler and wife Maycee of Ralston, NE, Tanner Culler and wife Paige of Gretna, NE, Spencer Culler and wife Amy of Afton, IA, Paige Thompson and husband Jacob of 29 Palms, CA, Matt Culler and wife Courtney of Kearney, NE; great-grandchildren Kenna, Morgan, Mikah, Madden, Kian, Aria and Aylin Culler, Taylor, Aubrey, Tyson, Kane, and Kinlee Kolling, Brenner, Kipton, and Brecken Culler, Griffin, Kipton, and Palmer Wheeler, nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorial service will be held Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler, NE at 2 PM. Officiant will be Pastor Dennis Reich, organist Julia Pohlmann, with congregational hymns “Amazing Grace” and “The Old Rugged Cross”. Honorary casket bearers are the grandchildren.
