Catherine Ann Wiedel was born March 26, 1943 at the family farm near Stoddard, Nebraska south of Hebron to Benjamin and Burnece (Hergott) Wiedel. She departed this life Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home in Hebron, NE at the age of 76 years.

She was baptized and confirmed by Reverend Clarence Crowley at Sacred Heart Church in Hebron. She attended grade school at Sacred Heart and graduated from Hebron High School with the class of 1961. After graduation she attended The Columbus School of Cosmetology graduating in 1962 and began a 50-year hairdressing career. Cathy lived in Lincoln from 1964 until 2012, when she moved back to Hebron.

Cathy volunteered her talents in many ways working with wigs and hairstyling and won the Division Sunrise Award for her volunteer work in the Look Good Feel Better Public Service Program of the American Cancer Society. She spent time visiting residents at both the Assisted Living and the Nursing Homes in Hebron for many years.

Cathy was an active member of the Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron and volunteered her time in many activities of both parishes. She was an officer in the Legion of Mary, and a member of the Cursillo and Ultrea apostolic movements. She taught CCD for many years and was active in St. Ann’s Altar Society. Cathy loved to sew and cook.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Michael (Jack) Wiedel, sister Dorothy Hintz and husband Darrell, and brother-in-law John Emanuel.

She is survived by her sisters, Jeanette (Ken) Else, Joan (Ron) Hintz, both of Hebron, NE, and Darlene Emanuel of McDonald, PA, sister-in-law Cheryle Wiedel of Hebron, 18 nieces and nephews, 34 great nieces and nephews, and four great-great nieces. She treated her nieces and nephews as though they were her own children.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron at 10AM. Officiant will be Father Rudy Oborny, cantor will be Carlece Kenner, organist Brenda Striggow, with congregational hymns “Precious Lord Take My Hand”, “On Eagles Wings”, “One Bread One Body” and “How Great Thou Art”. Acolyte will be Francis Rauner, reader Ken Else, altar boys Ben Hintz and Nick Faber. Casket bearers will be Jerrod Wiedel, Mike Wiedel, Matt Hintz, Mark Hintz, Rick Hintz, Greg Else, Jason Emanuel, Jim Emanuel, Jeremy Emanuel and John Emanuel. Visitation Monday, August 5, 2019 from 3pm o 7pm at Kroll Funeral Home.  Rosary service will be Monday, August 5 at 7 p.m. at Kroll Funeral Home Chapel in Hebron. Memorial in care of the family.
